Track Notes, 4/1/14

The Pioneer women had a great 2014 Illinois Top Times Meet at IWU's Shirk Center last Saturday!  Freshman Katie Reeves placed 9th in the Pole Vault, tying her indoor best of 9' 0"! Senior Gabi Jacobs placed 2nd in the Shot Put with an indoor all-time best of 44' 3.75"! Sophomore Chante Stonewall was the 60m Hurdle Champion, tying her best of 9.21!! And Senior Sydney Billingsley pulled the three-peat, winning her third consecutive Class 2A 1600m Championship in an indoor all-time best of 5:06.59!!
Congratulations ladies!!

The remaining Girl's Team more than held their own at the Joseph Cogdal Relays at ISU!  Thanks to all the athletes and parents who chipped in to ensure the success of the meet.  I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the support we receive from a wonderful group of parents.  Special thanks to Wendy Smith for all her efforts ensuring the meet ran well even while dealing with the tragedy the baseball team is experiencing.

The indoor season is now finished.  The coaching staff is very proud of this team,  for how they conduct themselves at meets while representing the school, and for their outstanding performances during indoor despite the really lousy weather we experienced.

More good news:

Today, WJBC, in partnership with Frontier Communications and Roberts Trophies, is again proud to present the High School Athletes of the Week.
Here are the winners for the week of March 31, 2014:

Sydney Billingsley - U-High Track
Sydney came in first in the 1,600-meter run of the Illinois Top Times Indoor Championships at Shirk Center for her third title in that meet.

J.D. Lafayette - U-High Track
J.D. set a meet record in the 800-meter run to take first at the Illinois Top Times Indoor Championships at Shirk Center.

Last week, Chante Stonewall was the WJBC High School Athlete of the Week.  Our student athletes have been well represented and am happy to see their efforts recognized.  We are happy for and proud of each of you!

On to our outdoor season.  This will be a tough week of training before our first outdoor meet at Eureka next Tuesday, April 8.  It's out goal to get all healthy athletes into this meet.  Make plans to join us and see your favorite athlete.  Hopefully it will be sunny and warm .... but probably not.

Please help ensure our athletes stay healthy ... as always, encourage them to drink plenty of water, to eat well and get their rest.

We may be having practice Saturday morning.   Will let you know for sure later this week.
