Track Notes, 5/12/14

Still feeling good about the Conference meet last Friday!   Most of all, I'm happy with the way our team competed.  It seemed we were in the running to score in every single event (in fact, we did!) and that is a direct reflection of our athletes determination and willingness to work as a team.  Not sure where I should start ...

Wins:
Sydney Billingsley's wins in the 3200 and 1600 ... quite possibly the hardest combo in HS track.  Her 1600 time was a season best and Class 2A leading 4:59.39!
Gabi Jacobs' wins in the shot and discus
Chante Stonewall's wins in the 100H and 300H
4 x 200's win (Spencer, Micayla, Nia and Chante)

2nd place finishes:
4 x 800 (Ashley, Madigan, Amber and Leah) in a school record time 9:43.51
Micayla in the 100M
Nia in the 200M
Leah in the 400M
Shannan in the 3200
4 x 100 (Spencer, Micayla, Nia and Raven)
Katie in the Pole Vault
Kara in the Triple Jump ... Kara continues to be our unsung consistent point scorer also placed in 100H (3rd) and 300H (4th).

More scoring results:
Janelle made finals and placed in the 100M (6th)
Ashley's 800 scored (5th)
Shannan in the 1600 (4th)
4 x 400 (Syd, Leah, Amber and Danielle) (4th)
Leah and Amber tied for 6th in HJ
Bri was 5th in LJ
Jessica was 5th in Discus

Our girl's controlled the meet 161.67 to second place Mahomet/Seymor's 131 with personal and season bests scattered throughout the evening.  As coaches, we are very proud of the way our team prepared, competed and conducted themselves throughout the week.

Our focus now turns to Sectionals, which will be this Thursday at Macomb High School. This meet is our most important to date and is the only opportunity for an athlete to qualify for the State Meet.  We have no doubt our girls will continue to prepare in the same manner they have all season.  You can support them by .... helping them to remember to drink plenty of water, to get rest, stretch, ice any aches or pains and simply encouraging them.   You should be proud of the way they have been prepared and focused all year and we are confident that will not change now.  I believe the confident and encouraging voices they hear every meet has helped them too ... thanks to our awesome supporters!  We hope to see as many of you as possible in Macomb!!

Assignments will be posted tomorrow after they are made this afternoon at practice.  Meet information and travel times will be posted then also.

Remember, practice is at 415p this afternoon so we can get on the track.

Finally, a quote I shared last year but is even more true this year:

(Dedicated to our incredible coaching staff ... John Neisler, Adam Rasche, Natalie Brunson-Wheeler, Karonji Carr and Lester Hampton, who work tirelessly and without making excuses, create a environment where our young people succeed)
"People with passion are incredibly inventive and tenacious individuals.  They go way beyond the call of duty and frequently work on their passion without pay or give more of themselves than their pay warrants."
