Track Notes, 03/06/12

We will have practice tonight.

Reminder ... photos will be tomorrow at 3:30p.   Please bring your uniform to practice.  The order forms will be given out tonight at practice.  If you want photos, you will need to bring the order form and a check made payable to Photography by Kent tomorrow to the photo session.

For those athletes not going away for spring break ... we plan to have practice from 8a - 10a next Monday and Tuesday.  Hopefully we will have the Horton Field House track those days but will practice regardless.  We have an indoor meet on Wednesday, March 14 at IWU @ 4p.  There will be no scheduled practice on Thursday and Friday of next week.

Also, if the boy's basketball team wins tonight, they will play Friday evening in Peoria.  We will excuse any athlete wishing to attend the game from Friday afternoon practice.

The coaches will talk to the team about conditioning during spring break  ... it would be a bad idea to take the entire break off.  We have a meet scheduled at IWU on the Monday the students return from break.  It will be the last opportunity for our athletes wanting to qualify for "Indoor State" to do so.   At least some attention to conditioning during all the fun and sun would be in order.  Please, DRINK WATER .. plenty of it while on your trips.  A few planned conditioning sessions during break will help ensure they are ready to compete when they return.

Thanks to all who came out to support our girls last Saturday.  We were very pleased with the turn out and I'm sure your favorite athlete appreciated it too!  We had some very good performances ...  Sydney Billingsley won the 1600 with the best time in the state so far ... 5:17.   Ericka Simple led our sprint team with an outstanding performance against some very good large school competition.  Jordan Armstrong was 2nd in the Triple Jump.  Gabi Jacobs threw the shot 41 feet plus bettering 2nd place by 5 ft.  ... Gabi's best throw last year was a school record 35' 5" .  We also had some first year athletes perform very well.  The coaches were very proud of the effort and the manner in which the team conducted itself.  I have used the expression "act like we've been there before" and our athletes did ... even the ones who really haven't.  Nice start to our season but we have lots of work left to do if we hope to accomplish all we are capable of.

Quote of the day:

So celebrate what you've accomplished, but raise the bar a little higher each time you succeed.
