Track Notes, 03/21/12

Thanks to our seniors who helped last night at the You Name it Sports interview and photo session! So much fun watching our team leaders pose for photographs and work through interviews completely on their own as if they have been doing it for years.   Our parents should be very proud of these young women.  Our team certainly is and I am grateful for the leadership my seniors have provided for this very young girl's team.  I'm looking forward to the feature in the next issue.

A few quick reminders:
Photos are scheduled for today at 330p.  Once photos are taken, we will have practice so dismissal may be a little later than usual tonight.  Practice will end by 530p.

Saturday will be the last of our indoor meets.
Our qualifiers for the Illinois Prep Top Times meet were;
Erika Simple in the 55M (7.48) and 400M (1:01.91)
Sydney Billingsley in the 1600M (5:17.96) and 3200M Relay (10:22.66) Sydney also qualified in the 400M and 800M but will not participate in those events.
Gabi Jacobs in the Shot Put (41' 7")
Morgan Cross, Katie Herrman, Ashley LaFayette and Sydney Billingsley (Alternate; Elizabeth Madison) in the 3200M Relay (10:22.66)

Congrats to these athletes for an outstanding start to our season.  Qualifying is a impressive feat considering our training is geared for performing their best at the end of April/beginning of May.

The remaining team members will be at our very own Cogdal Relays being held at ISU's Horton Field House.  Assignments will be given to team members today and posted later in the week.

Coaches Neisler and Simple will be at IWU while Coach Hampton and I will be at ISU.

The heat seems here to stay ... at least for a while.  I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to increase the amount of water you are drinking.  Avoid carbonated and sugar filled drinks.  Please consider taking a water bottle everywhere you go ... including school and practice.  Dehydration is a serious issue with athletes at all levels.  It will, and has, caused athletes in our program to lose part or all of their season and has serious health consequences.  Fortunately, prevention is easy ... drink water!

See you at 3:15p!

Quote of the Day:

Working hard becomes a habit, a serious kind of fun. You get self-satisfaction from pushing yourself to the limit, knowing that all the effort is going to pay off.
