Notes to athletes:
Be sure to bring plenty of water and something easy on the stomach to eat
before and between events. A few dollars for something to eat AFTER you
are finished for the day may be a good idea.
Note to parents:
Tomorrow's Cogdal meets will consist of many of our young athletes
in events they have not competed in before. It should be a good
experience for all of them although I'm sure some of them will be
nervous. I'm confident we will get their best effort and that will be all
we ever ask. We appreciate all the support and encouraging words coming
from our fans! Thanks for your patience through the indoor season and we
are definitely looking forward to competing outdoors!
We have many athletes complaining of sore shins, feet etc
... Injuries, unfortunately, are a common problem in track. We are
watching as closely as we can to ensure they do not aggravate injuries ...
please encourage them to let us know before it has become a major problem.
Part of the issue is young athletes learning the difference between soreness
and injuries. Experience will help them but in their first season, they
need to let us know when they hurt ... we'll do our best to help them tell the
difference. Please encourage your athlete to stretch at home, ice sore
muscles and joints and to get plenty of rest. (Ice and water in a 5
gallon bucket can help sore ankles, shins and feet. For more specific
pains in the shin, freeze water in a dixie cup ... peel the cup back and use
the ice to massage the shin.)
Quote of the Day:
The true measure of a runner isn't in time, but rather in the effort it took along the way.
