Track Notes, Sectionals!

Thanks to all who came out to support our team last Friday night at Mahomet.  Our young team, competing the best they have all year, placed third in the Corn Belt Conference.  We had some outstanding performances:
  • Sydney Billingsley won the 1600 and 3200 and anchored our 4 x 400
  •  Erika Simple won the 200, set a new school record in the 400 while placing second and helped us score in the 4 x100 and 4 x400
  •  Tat Peck placed in 4 different events
  • Gabi Jacobs won the Shot Put, Discus and helped our 4 X100 place coming very close to a state qualifying time.
Our younger runners held their own against older more experienced athletes with season best times and PR's.  As a coaching staff, we were as pleased with this meet as we have been with any this year.  We are very proud of our athletes and are looking forward to competing this Thursday at the Macomb Sectionals.  Sectionals is the qualifying meet for the IHSA State Track and Field Championships.  Athletes and relays meeting the qualifying standards will be able to compete at State May 17 through 19 in Charleston, IL.  Although we are a class 2A school based on the IHSA multiplier, meaning we compete with schools that have a much larger student population, we have and will continue to be competitive and have success due to the hard work and dedication of our student athletes.  Our success this season has also extended to the classroom.  All U-High Girl's Track athletes have been academically eligible all season.  It is our goal to have these young women succeed on and off the field.  They have and you, as our supporters, have many reasons to be proud of these athletes.

Information regarding the Sectional meet scheduled for this Thursday, May 10, 2012.  The meet will be located at Macomb High School, 1525 S. Johnson St., Macomb, IL  61455

All Athletes assigned to compete, or as an alternate, at the Sectional meet will be dismissed from class at 12N and the bus will leave at 12:15p.  Although I do not know the exact time the bus will return to U-High, I am guessing it will around 11:30p.  All other teammates wishing to attend and travel on the bus must notify me and have a parent note turned into the office excusing them from school Thursday after 12N.  Due to the distant and remote location of this meet, I discourage any non-assigned athlete to drive on their own unless accompanied by a parent.
